The village is just a 5 minute walk or a 2 minute bike ride from our house. Sitting on the terrace you overlook the charming old city. La Garde Freinet is a commune in the VAR department in the Cote d’Azur region in southeastern France. It’s a medieval French mountain village, located in the Massif des Maures, 15 km north of Saint Tropez. Accisible by picturesque winding roads, through forest of cork, oaks and chestnuts.
Established in the 11th century, the village has preserved its character with its field stone houses, old fashioned street names and village square framed restaurant and local art galleries. On a clear day one can see from the top of old Fort Freinet the plains of Saint-Clémens and the Argens valley all the way to the Alps.
It’s a quiet pitoresque oasis in the middle of the hectic of the French Cote d’Azur.
